in which we sing a song

Mom, Anna and I were in a Christmas Cantata this year, and me and the mooches had a duet for the song "Offering". Which is technically a worship song, but it worked. Amazingly we didn't forget all our words, go off-key, or fall off the stage. Successful I would say.

I am so ready for Christmas now (oh wait, I already was) :D

The Mouse That Roared

The play we did was "The Mouse That Roared" taken from the book written by Leonard Wibberley. It's a comedy set in the Cold War era. This tiny country, Grand Fenwick, decides to declare war on the United States in order to avoid bankruptcy. Because, as history shows, when a country loses a war with with US, they always spend a great deal of money on rehabilitating that country. So they send a simple-minded backwoodsman, Tully Bascom, with just a few men carrying longbows to invade the US. Then the unexpected happens, instead of all dying or getting captured, they win! It's really a funny story.

The lead girl, Duchess Gloriana XII, was split between 3 actresses just because of the sheer amount of lines and the time we had to learn them. I played the first one, which meant I had to memorize 70 lines in 5 days. It was crazy. But fun.

I don't know how we pulled it off, but we did. Everything went really smoothly, no one messed up too badly, no one tripped on their dresses or fell down stairs. It was a miracle! Especially since the dress rehearsal was sketchyyy... I was really glad my part was early on so that I could just relax in the second act.

And that about sums it up! It was a crazy, stressful, fun, stretching, awesome time. I'm definitely glad I went.

It's Over

Anna and I had our third performance of Pilgrim's Progress this past Saturday. It is now over! Sort of relieving, sort of sad. We had it at a small theater in Deposit which was fun. Both casts got combined, so we had to share a bunch of parts. It worked out though. Victoria and I in our amazing demon makeup after the play.

We all went outside afterwards because it was so hot inside the theater.

Pilgrim's Progress

The play went really good. We had a performance on Friday night and on Saturday afternoon, and then we have another one this Saturday at a little theater. I was mainly in the Friday cast, (we were Cast B, but were picked to go first) and then I just sang and was background people on Saturday for the other cast. So it was a lot more relaxed.

Anna played Pilgrim's wife. Me being "Help" who pulls Christian from the Slough of Despond. But then I fall in and have to be carried off the stage.

But wait! His troubles aren't over, because three scenes later he has to go through the Valley of Humiliation. I'm the demon on the left. The people on the ground are the lower class demons who are more like snakes. My favorite part by far. It's so fun to be evil. Mwahahaha!
At Vanity Fair now. Anna plays a merchant who tries to get Christian and Faithful to buy our stuff.
But then they won't, so all the town people are angry. Here we are listening to the charges against them. You can't see me because I was on the other side of the stage. Then we kill him.
To lighten things up, enter leech commercial. I'm the nurse. Slightly disturbing. But it was fun.
Anna was the salesman. I'm showing off the leach jar and the teeth extractors that you can get if you buy the jar within the next week. Buy now! Peasants are standing by...

Play Practice

So, we've been crazy busy getting ready for the play Anna and I are in. We're doing Pilgrim's Progress and we open this weekend! We only have one more rehearsal tomorrow. Yesterday we did full costumes and just ran through both casts (they split us up into two), today we did no costumes and just polished up some rough spots. A bunch of the girls also got their hair done. I didn't because I was in most of the scenes we were working on, but Anna did.

SU game

Last night we went to Syracuse and Teresa and Sarah sang at their first men's basketball game!!! Waiting for the game to begin.

They sang really good. :D

We were playing De Paul and won, leading most of the game. Then we went out for ice cream, but I forgot to bring the camera with me.

Voice Recital

Sarah, Emily, and I had our voice recital last weekend. I wasn't really supposed to be in it, but Teresa couldn't make it and the girls had a trio they were supposed to sing, so I filled in for her. We sang first, and then my job for the rest of the recital was putting mics on everyone, it was pretty fun.

Talent Night

Emily, Anna, and I have been taking this drama class for several months and last Saturday our group performed at a talent show. There was dancing, singing, people playing piano...etc. The skit I was in was called "Watch Out for Temptation" which was in the middle of the second act, and the one Anna was in was called "All For None" and was at the very end of the whole thing.

Sorry that the pictures are so blurry, it was really hard to get a good picture because the lighting was pretty bad. Here is my skit, I'm the one that is hidden behind the mic stand. :)

We practiced our skit twice before the performance, and both times messed up at the same spot, the week before we couldn't even get through our skit without stopping, so it was a little nerve-racking getting up in front of 200 people to do it. But amazingly, it was the best we had ever done it! That was pretty true of all of the skits, they were all really good and everyone laughed at all the funny parts, so that was good. We were so glad we pulled it off we were running and jumping down the hallway afterwards.

Anna's skit was really good, she's in the green. But the performance that stole the show was this little boy who got up there with a harmonica and just kept going up and down, up and down. He would pause, then go at it again, it was hilarious! For about two minutes he 'played' the harmonica and then made this really low bow at the end. The crowd went wild at the end, it was so funny! The whole thing was a lot better than I expected it to be and we all had fun.
