Cherry Surprise

I have always wanted a cherry tree. We used to have one when we lived at a different house, but I was only 6. Well, my wish came true...in a very unexpected way. Last week sometime, Dad came in and announced they we had a cherry tree in the hedgerow along the runway. Now, I cannot tell you how many times we have walked down the runway and passed all of those trees, hundreds at least. So we all went out and looked, and sure enough, we had a cherry tree. In all of the years that our family has lived at this house (10 to be exact), we never knew. Isn't that bizarre? And so we picked them, pitted them (which takes forever), and made a pie.
We thought they would all be gone after that because of the birds, but a few days later there was so many, we picked again.

Anna with the delicious cherries.
It's a sour cherry tree, but they are so good.
Now we have 3 bags of them in the freezer for future use.

No More Chaos

Yesterday I bought the greatest thing ever: a jewelry rack. It is so amazing. Before, all of my earrings sat in a tangled pile in a box. Now I can see them all, they are organized, and it even has places for necklaces and bracelets. I LOVE it! I just had to share.

Oh, and today I FINISHED SCHOOL!!! I'm so happy!

Cape Cod: Day 6/7

The lobster is the only picture we have from Friday, obviously we didn't do much. We had planned to leave Saturday, but then decided to stay. It was good that we did, it was such a nice day! We started it off by going out to breakfast by the bay.
Then we had to go to the beach again.
Later in the day Teresa and I were sitting on a bench in a park and were looking at this view:
That night we had a campfire on Coast Guard Beach. When we got there it was FREEZING! The sand was cold, the air was cold, and it was so windy. But we survived. Teresa, Anna, and I were standing by the water when we first got there when we saw a bunch of seals. It was so amazing. I sprinted up the sand dune where we were parked, grabbed the camera, and raced back down. By that time the seals had left, and Teresa thought they had gone to the left, so we all raced down the beach. Chasing down seals doesn't really work. My lungs felt like bursting, I didn't get a picture, but we did see more when it got darker.
Miriam and Emily watching the fire being built.

Playing frisbee on the beach.
Marina (Mr. Wells daughter), Anna, Sarah, and Emily.
This is the only pic with the whole family in it from our whole vacation. :)
The sunset was pretty cool.
All in all, it was the best family vacation we've ever had...we took a poll in the car on the way home.
It was so relaxing and fun...and BEawesome!!!

Cape Cod: Day 5

Thursday we all got up and bundled up for fishing. (all except Sarah, it was too cold for her) We got out to the wharf at 8am and met Mr. Wells there. He has a friend who has a charter boat and treated us all to a sweet fishing trip. It was cold.

Waiting for them to fill the boat up with gas. And then we were talking to the gas station guy, because Dad figured out he knew him 20 years ago when the guy used to work for him! Talk about weird.
Dad bringing in the big one.
This is the captain, Jim.
The first fish I hooked got away, the second broke the line, and the three I actually reeled in were too small to keep. They had to be at least 28 inches. I was the only one who didn't bring a fish home. *sniff* It was still incredibly fun though.
Emily with her trophy.
Mommy!
These birds were flying around the whole time, that's how we knew where the fish were. The whole time they were diving in the water and coming out with these sand eels.
Us with our delicious bass. 11 bass and 3 blue fish.

And the bass is SO good! We've had it twice already. It's not fishy tasting, unlike the blue fish. And the rain held off all day which was good. It was a great day. :)

Cape Cod: Day 4

Wednesday we headed over to Provincetown again and walked across the break wall. It is WAY longer than it looks. Running part of the way, Teresa, Emily, and I made it across in 27 minutes.

Then the trail ended, and there was a lighthouse a little ways away to the right. But me and Teresa really wanted to go to this other lighthouse, which didn't look that far away, to the left. It was at the very tip of the curl of Massachusetts, and I wanted to go as far as the tide would let me. Dad and Sarah were already cold, so they went to the nearer lighthouse, and the rest of us headed out into the, unmarked, unknown...
There was NO ONE there. We saw one set of footprints, but we were the only
people out there. We followed the coast for awhile until we came up to our first road block. They had fenced off a big portion of land for the birds to make their nests in or something. The tide was up (it changes 8 ft twice a day) so we couldn't follow the coast anymore without wading in water which we didn't really want to do. We tried to find a way to the other side of the peninsula by following the sand dunes, but to no avail. We almost went back, but then we saw the sails of a ship so we knew the coast wasn't far away. It was funny, we were like little lost people, wandering around in the sand searching for water. :)
Mom and me topped this rise and saw the ocean, yeah! We walked for it seemed like miles on this other beach, when we spotted a coast guard boat watching us. We kept thinking that he would yell at us or something, but thankfully he left us alone. And then we came upon the cause for all of our travels: the lighthouse.I would have climbed the lighthouse, but some bonehead locked the door and I forgot to bring along my lock picking kit. Bummer.
Teresa and I ran out to the very tip of the land and touched the water, it was sweet.
This is how we felt afterwords.
The wanderers: Emily, Mom, Anna, me, Teresa

And then we had to walk all of the way back. Thankfully, the tide had gone back down, so we went the easy short way, but by the end my feet hurt so bad. It was totally worth it though!
Todd and Miriam (the people that let us stay in their Summer house), Gloria (an old friend of my parents), and Dad and Mom. We went to Gloria's house that night for dessert.

Sarah, Em, Anna, some random kid, Teresa, and Tiffany (Gloria's daughter).

Cape Cod: Day 3

Tuesday was rainy and cold, but we braved the elements to climb Pilgrim Monument and visit the Provincetown Museum. It was tall, with a lot of stairs.Emily, Anna H., and me trying not to be blown away. The rain was pelting us without mercy, but we found one side where it was bearable.
The view from the top.

The museum was pretty cool too.
And that's pretty much all we did Tuesday.

Cape Cod: Day 2

Monday we spent on Commercial Street (the main street in Provincetown) walking and shopping. We went to one store that had Cape Cod sweatshirts on sale and most of us bought some. Mine actually says "baseball" in big letters and then "cape cod" in really little letters. I don't know why, I didn't see any baseball fields while we were there, but it was the only x-small they had, and all of the other sizes were huge. It's still big, but it works. Then we went to this other place called Marine Specialties where they sold everything from army gear to flowy skirts to knick-knacks. They had so many random things in there it was amazing! Me going in. I got some sweet earrings.
But then Sarah and Anna got bored with simply shopping and decided to run off from the rest of us and do something drastic. Something spontaneous. Something inky. When we found them they were getting tattoos. Oh, the shock! The horror! The permanence! I nearly fainted.
But I got over it soon enough, and the tattoos washed off within the week.

After all the walking around and shopping, we stopped at a (sort of creepy) pizza place where Dad and Mom used to eat at all the time. It was greasy, flat, and delicious.
Teresa and Emily with their purchases.
This was the house that Dad and Mom moved into right after they were married. They had the top floor, and the friends who we were visiting there had lived on the lower level.
Behind them is the steps that Mom was standing on when Dad fell in love with her. Seriously. She was just standing there doing nothing, and he saw her (they had just been friends before) and knew that she was the one. The only. The hot tamale train personified!
And the rest is history...
After our tour of the old houses and such (there was a bunch more, but I didn't want to bore you) we walked out on the wharf.

Enjoying the evening air.
We then headed back to the beach to see the sunset. The clouds were in the way, so we didn't get the whole view, but it was pretty cool anyway.

And so ended day two...
